About Us

Our Background

Jesus Is The Way Prison Ministry was founded in 1977, registered to be a 501 @ 3 organization in 1984 and incorporated in 1985.  We are an organization with 5 paid staff and approximately 40 volunteers.  In the state of Illinois, we provide volunteer Chaplaincy services for the correctional facilities in Douglas, Ford and Piatt Counties as well as two Champaign County facilities.  We also hold regular services in three of the State of Illinois prisons.  We are governed by a Board of Directors, which consists of a farmer, a daycare provider, a retired mechanic, a retired electrician and the ministry’s Co-Founder and Executive Director.

Our Mission

Jesus is the Way Prison Ministry’s mission is to go into prisons and other correctional institutions throughout the United States and other countries to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to inmates.  Upon their release we desire to help them with housing, food, clothing, spiritual guidance and counseling, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, job skills training, and job placement, thus enabling them to become productive and responsible citizens.

Our Goal

Jesus is the Way Prison Ministry’s goal is to reduce the recidivism rate of male/female offenders by minimizing the cases of criminality directly related to substance abuse and other related dysfunctions, by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ while putting His love in action via our evangelistic ministry and our aftercare outreach.  Our long-term goal is to build additional dormitories at our current center (which houses males) and to obtain another separate facility for female residents.

Our Objective

  • Expand and enhance our existing services to share the gospel with as many inmates as possible, as well as to give Bibles and/or Bible study guides to those requesting them.
  • Expand our services to help inmates’ families which currently consists of counseling and the “Miracle of Christmas” program which is toys being given to inmates’ children on their behalf.
  • Expand our existing aftercare program by building additional dormitories at our current facility to house more males and to obtain a separate facility for female residents.

Donor Base

Jesus is the Way Prison Ministry is currently funded by donations from various churches, individuals, and businesses.

Ministry Campaigns in Different Churches and Organizations

Jesus is the Way Prison Ministry accepts speaking engagements to raise funds as well as to inform people how we are helping inmates, ex-offenders, and their families.  When our ministry does a service at a church, we do a 5-10 minute window about the ministry, or we can do the entire service.  If asked to do an entire service several of the men in our program give their testimonies and one of our staff members bring a message.

Annual Banquet

Jesus is the Way Prison Ministry has an annual fundraising banquet.  Each year, we have approximately 350 people in attendance.  This is also another way we raise funds and let people know what our ministry is about.

Miracle of Christmas

Jesus is the Way Prison Ministry sponsors an annual toy drive entitled “Miracle of Christmas”.  This program gives new toys to inmates’ children on their behalf.  Individuals as well as church congregations donate the toys.  We wrap age appropriate toys and tag them from Dad and/or Mom and distribute them in the second weekend of December. When we distribute the toys a staff member or volunteer shares the true message of Christmas and has a time of prayer with the family.

Mentors by Mail

Jesus is the Way Prison Ministry has a program to reach out to those incarcerated via mail.  This program is designed for individuals looking to minister to those who are incarcerated but are unable to travel for one reason or another. We are constantly in need of more volunteers in this area. At this moment, we have many inmates that are waiting for volunteers to begin writing them. God is truly bringing in a harvest through this ministry – and we need workers to help bring it in!
